FAMILY ACTIVITIES

Whatever your age, Trailnet can offer a number of healthy outdoor activities from our centre at Thorndon Country Park. Whether you want to take your two-year-old for a ride in a bike-drawn carriage or bring the whole family along to search for hidden treasure, we can provide all you need.

Cycle Hire

Our park-based cycle centres are ideal places for everyone from absolute beginners to experienced riders to enjoy off-road cycling. We hire a range of bikes for all ages, sizes and abilities, plus a selection of buggies, tagalongs and child seats so that everyone can take part. We also offer tandems and a range of tricycles for those that need some help to stay upright. For a full list of our bikes with details of prices and opening, check out our cycle hire page.

Cycling Activities & Events

In addition to cycle hire, Trailnet offers lots of other cycle-related activities such as cycling lessons, children’s BikeKlubz sessions, buggy rides and inclusive cycling for those with disabilities.

For full details of these and other activities, please see our main cycling page.

Orienteering

For those that prefer traditional map and compass over GPS systems, orienteering offers another great opportunity for healthy outdoor fun.

To see how to get started, check out our orienteering page.

Geocaching

Combining the thrill of a treasure hunt with modern navigation tools and outdoor exercise in an attractive setting – geoacaching really does offer something for the whole family.

Whether you’re an experienced geocacher with your own equipment looking to add to your tally of caches or just want to try something different this weekend, our activity centre at Thorndon is the perfect places to head for.

We offer GPS hire and provide instructions on how to get started. We can also organise bespoke events for larger groups.

For more details, see our geocaching page.

Other Activities

In addition to Trailnet’s activity programmes, Thorndon Park and Essex Wildlife Trust offer lots of other exciting family activities, such as the incredibly popular Gruffalo Trail; a range of nature walks; den-building and more.

For more details of these, please check the respective Thorndon Country Park and Essex Wildlife Trust websites or call 01277 211250 or 01277 232944.
