Geocaching in Essex Country Parks

Geocaching and Heritage
In addition to being a healthy recreational activity, geocaching can also help you learn more about your local historical, cultural and natural heritage. Instead of a multitude of signs directing you to these sites, why not use a GPS to guide you to each location and use your computer or smartphone to access background information about them.
Thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Trailnet, in association with Essex Country Parks, has developed a series of geocaches that are located close to historical, cultural and ecological sites within the county’s nine Country Parks. For more general information on these parks, how to find them and the available facilities in each, use the following links:
| Thorndon | Belhus Woods | Weald |
| Danbury | Hadleigh | Cudmore Grove |
| Marsh Farm | Cressing Temple | Great Notley & The Flitch Way |
For more details of the heritage sites within the parks, check out our Local Treasures page or download our information sheet.
A full list of project caches can be found here. You will need an account to be able to view details of these caches and you can sign up for free at geocaching.com.
If you’d like to know more about geocaching, you can download a geocaching user guide.
For those of you without GPS devices you can hire these from Trailnet at selected country parks.
You can also check for regular events within the country parks and at other local sites on our events calendar or by following us on Twitter.
