Through ReSpoke, we refurbish unwanted bikes, return them to use, and ensure they continue bringing joy, mobility, and independence to people of all ages. It’s a project built on sustainability, skill-building, and community support—giving bikes (and people) a second chance.
🚴 From Forgotten to Functional: How We Revive Old Bikes
When a bike is donated to ReSpoke, it goes through a complete transformation process in our fully equipped workshops.
🔧 Step 1: Assessment – Our skilled mechanics grade every donated bike, identifying the level of quality of the bike:
- Premium bikes – which raise funds for our projects.
- Standard bikes which need some refurbishment
- Lower quality bikes which get donated to bikes for Africa.
- Poor quality bikes get dismantled and get taken to scrap to get recycled back into the circular economy.
🛠 Step 2: Refurbishment – Bikes are taken apart, cleaned, and restored with high-quality components to ensure they’re safe, comfortable, and ride-ready.
🚲 Step 3: Back on the Road – Refurbished bikes are then either sold to the public at affordable prices or used in community programmes that teach cycle mechanics and support disadvantaged groups.
Every bike sold helps fund our community projects, ensuring that cycling remains accessible to everyone.
